Oil-Based Skincare: The Best Choice for Oily, Dry, and Combination Skin Types

My Journey to Oil-Based Skincare
In my 40s, after testing a mountain of skincare products, I finally discovered what actually works for my skin: oil-based skincare. I have combination skin. My T-zone doesn’t turn into an oil slick, but it loves to throw a breakout party now and then. I spent years using water-based cleansers, toners, and creams promising miracle results. What did I get? Dry patches and breakouts that showed up uninvited plus a list of ingredients so complicated I needed a translator.
So, I decided to ditch the confusing chemical cocktails and give a simpler, more natural approach a shot. Oil-based skincare delivered the results I wanted and treated my skin with the kindness it deserved.
The Problem with Water-Based Skincare
Water-based skincare is everywhere, but let’s be honest: water itself isn’t doing your skin any favors. It’s mostly filler and can’t even sneak past the skin barrier on its own. That’s why these products need a whole team of chemical helpers (emulsifiers, stabilizers, preservatives, etc.) to keep things mixed and fresh. Some of these unwanted extras, like parabens and synthetic fragrances, can irritate your skin and cause allergic reactions.
Even the “natural” fillers, like xanthan gum or carrageenan, aren’t always the innocent bystanders they claim to be. They can clog pores or stir up inflammation depending on your skin’s mood. Yeah, not so gentle after all.
Using these chemicals daily can inflame your skin, mess with your natural balance, and even throw off your hormones. In the long run, that’s not just a bad look for your skin but can affect your overall health too.
Why Oil-Based Skincare Works Better
Your skin produces its own natural oil called sebum, a mix of fats that keeps your skin barrier strong, locks in moisture, and protects against outside damage. Oil-based skincare works alongside this instead of wiping it out.
These oils can break down dirt and excess oil without drying your skin out. And here’s the kicker: they work for everyone.
- Dry skin? Oils give it the deep hydration it’s been begging for.
- Oily skin? Some oils actually tell your skin to cool it on the oil production.
- Combination skin? Oils know exactly where to show up and where to back off.
- Sensitive skin? Pure plant oils skip the harsh stuff and keep irritation at bay.
The Whole-Body Benefits of Oil-Based Skincare
Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it’s picky about what it lets in. Those synthetic ingredients in water-based products don’t just stay on the surface. They can sneak deeper, and long-term exposure to preservatives and fragrances has been linked to all kinds of unwanted side effects.
By choosing oil-based skincare made with pure, natural ingredients, you cut down on toxins while feeding your skin the vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids it really wants.
Why I Created Bedew Skincare
I wanted skincare that makes life easier, not more complicated. Oil-based products don’t need a million steps to do their thing. A good facial oil can nourish, protect, firm your skin, and even help reduce the appearance of wrinkles without harsh chemicals or stripping your skin.
For me, oil-based skincare flipped the script on my combo skin. I’ve seen it work magic on friends with dry, oily, and sensitive skin too…proof that keeping it simple really wins.
That’s why I developed two clean, effective facial oils designed to hydrate deeply and restore your skin’s natural glow:
